Protein Overnight Oats
⏱ 5 min + overnight💪 32g protein per serving🔥 ~390 cal🍽 1 jar
The mistake most people make with protein overnight oats is dumping the powder in dry and finding cement in the morning. Whisk the protein into the milk first and it stays creamy. Do that, and you get a jar with 32 grams of protein that takes five minutes and zero morning effort.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 scoop (about 30g) vanilla protein powder
- 3/4 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- Pinch of salt
- Berries and nut butter, for topping
Instructions
- Whisk the protein powder into the milk in a jar or bowl until completely dissolved. Do this before anything else goes in.
- Stir in the Greek yogurt, maple syrup, and salt.
- Add the oats and chia seeds and stir until everything is submerged.
- Seal and refrigerate at least 6 hours, ideally overnight.
- In the morning, stir, add a splash of milk if it is too thick, and top with berries and nut butter.
Tips
- Make four jars at once on Sunday. They keep 5 days and the texture actually improves by day two.
- Chia seeds are what make it thick and spoonable. Leave them out and you get soggy cereal.
- For chocolate oats, use chocolate protein powder and add a teaspoon of cocoa powder.
FAQ
- Can I heat these up?
- Yes. Microwave 60 to 90 seconds, stirring halfway. Add a splash of milk first because they thicken overnight.
- Why did mine turn out gluey?
- The protein powder went in dry, or you used a plant protein that absorbs more liquid. Dissolve it in milk first and add 2 extra tablespoons of milk for plant protein.
- Can I use steel cut oats?
- Not for this method. Steel cut oats stay hard without cooking. Use old-fashioned rolled oats.
