Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake
⏱ 5 min💪 40g protein per serving🔥 ~430 cal🍽 1 large shake
The problem with most protein shakes is that they are thin, and thin shakes taste like chalky milk. Frozen banana and ice blended together fix that. This comes out thick enough to eat with a spoon and hits 40 grams of protein without tasting like a supplement.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana, broken into chunks
- 2 scoops (about 60g) chocolate whey protein powder
- 2 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 cup ice
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder (optional, for a deeper chocolate flavor)
Instructions
- Add the milk to the blender first. Liquid on the bottom keeps the blades from seizing.
- Add the peanut butter, protein powder, and cocoa powder.
- Add the frozen banana and ice on top.
- Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds until completely smooth with no flecks of banana left.
- Pour into a tall glass and drink immediately, before it separates.
Tips
- Freeze bananas when they get spotty. Peel them first, break into chunks, and bag them. Unpeeled frozen bananas are miserable to work with.
- For a thicker shake use less milk, not more ice. Extra ice waters down the flavor as it melts.
- Half a cup of Greek yogurt adds another 10 grams of protein and makes it creamier.
FAQ
- Can I make this ahead?
- You can blend it the night before and keep it in a sealed jar in the fridge, but shake it hard before drinking. It will separate.
- How do I make it dairy free?
- Use a plant protein powder, almond or oat milk, and it works exactly the same. Plant protein makes it slightly grittier.
- Can I skip the banana?
- Yes, but replace it with 1/2 cup frozen cauliflower or 1/2 an avocado, or the shake will be thin.
